Elginet earns 1st place photo prize in International

Association of Firefighters Media Awards Contest (IAFF)

(September 2, 2009) - I just learned yesterday that the IAFF (the largest firefighter organization in the world!) has announced the winners for their 2008 Media Awards Contest, and in the Fire Service Photo on a Wesbite catagory picked one of my photos for 1st Place taken of an Elgin Fire Department Dive Box that was called out when someone saw a Porsche Cayenne floating down the frozen Fox River in March of 2008. The photo was submitted on behalf of the Elgin Association of Firefighter's, Local 439.

Divers and firefighters from area departments had to brave the frozen waters of the Fox River as the car was sumbmerged and slowly moving downstream with only part of the roof visible. It was unknown if anyone was in the vehicle for some time until 2 Elgin Fire Department divers were able to gain entry to the vehicle. It luckily, was empty. The Porsche was stolen out of Chicago and dumped in the Fox presumably from the area of Duncan and the Tollway.

Elginet also got an honorable mention for the published photo (Daily Herald) of Elgin Firefighter Lt. J.P. Fahy holding one of the little girls that were ejected from a Ford Expedition after it rolled over on the tollway in May of 2008. That incident can be found by clicking here.

We'd like to thank the IAFF and Elgin Association of Firefighter's, Local 439 for their recognition.
